How does PDT with Metvix work?

PDT with Metvix is a simple, very effective treatment that involves the application of the photosensitiser cream Metvix (methyl aminolevulinate). With the cream application, photoactive molecules get absorbed in the cancer tissue. After the recommended cream application time of 3 hours, the treatment site is then exposed to red light (Aktilite) which triggers off a reaction that kills the cancer cells.

This treatment only destroys cancerous and pre-cancerous cells, not surrounding healthy tissue.
